“Black Jack” Geary has ordered his fleet back to the Lakota Star System where the Syndics nearly destroyed them, a desperate gamble that may give them a fighting chance of survival—or tear them apart.

What Customers Say About Valiant (The Lost Fleet, Book 4):

You make me so angry John Geary. Now for the things that continue to annoy me:Victoria Rionne: Please kill her. I have never liked her character, I don't know anybody who does, and she grows more annoying with every page. But now. Yet people still question him and his ability to lead the fleet into battle.

She is simply the most annoying character in the books. Seriously. I hate the way she always uses his full name all of the time "I don't know john Geary. As an active military man with 16 years of service and multiple combat tours, I really do. What do you expect John Geary. Lee, and Chester Nimitz all rolled into one. I like to think of myself as a very well rounded and mature adult, but reading this makes me feel like a kid. She must be suffering from continual PMS, hormone imbalance, schizophrenia, and multiple personality disorder.

The battles are well done if at times a little hard to follow. Campbell, Senator Rione needs to STFU and GDIAF.The Non-believers: Okay, I can see how in the first book there might have been some non believers in the fleet as to Geary's ability to command them. It has a good premise. "Please get back to the ships and the lasers." Mr.

Hello John Geary. Nobody talks like that. And the scenes with her and Geary are just bad. I will assume that if you are reading this that you have read the previous books so unlike the author, I will not re-cap the events of them for you and assume you know what is going on.This series is a good idea. However, so far Geary has managed to completely demolish 4 fleets that each outnumbered his tiny battered survivors 3 to one and come out with only minor losses. This in a time when the fleet would have admittedly (by everyone) have been destroyed 4 times already. Why. This made sense the first book.

And these people still question him. Or transfer her to one of the Callas Republic Ships. This makes no sense. In closing I will say that these are good books, and enjoyable (and also extremely short, he could probably combine them into a trilogy instead but hey, more money this way) to read. I urge you to reconsider John Geary." SHUT UP. It reminds me of the dialogue between Anakin and Padme. This guy has proven himself to be George Patton, Robert E. I know they are not meant to be high philosophical lectures or treatises and I do not treat them as such.I just wish he would kill Rione.

All in all, this series is good and I'd probably recommend it to others - but with some conditions. The one thing I've found most irritating about the books so far is the constant repetition. I'm guessing that the author (or editors) were thinking that people would pick this series up in the middle, but the constant re-explaining of the positions of the characters seems to assume that we're either fish or have absolutely no short term memory.Aside from that, it's a bit long and some of the combat scenes are just more of the same that we've seen in the past two books. Overwhelming odds that always get overcome - either by some clever trick or superior tactics. It's certainly helpful to providing the real depth of space that the author's trying to convey, but after awhile it just gets a bit boring.

I started with the firest book Dauntless and read right through all 5. Great story teller with interesting management twist.

Well, I ordered this book on accident. The shades of technological limitations add some great depth to this book. I was attempting to put it on my Wish List and must have hit the "1 click order" button. Best mistake this year though. Many authors simplify their worlds by including instant communication across vast distances of space and magical sensors that are faster then light. Plus, the attachment to the main character

After the disaster that was the previous entry in this series, I'd given up on it. I wasn't until I encountered Valiant at the second hand store and it became one of my buck-a-book purchases did I even consider reading it.Valiant was much better than Courageous in that there wasn't near as much fighting and hen-pecking between the women in Captain Geary's life. I'd still like to see Victoria Rione with her mouth taped shut but at least she wasn't clawing and fighting her way through every scene. Now that there's confirmation the aliens on the other side of Syndic space are real, this series is starting to pick up a little more steam. I don't know that I'd pay full cover price for volumes five and six, but I'll read them eventually.
